Oct 21 · Russia frees American Stephen Hubbard as Witkoff meets Putin
NBC News (TODAY): Russia Frees American Stephen Hubbard After 4-Year Detention
Grade B (88/100). Release, Witkoff thanks Putin, family
Lehrer score 88/100 (−12 loaded wording: loaded characterization in the correspondent's own voice: “[1:08] piles pressure on Ukraine to agree to an end to the war.”). Fixed scale: 90+ A, 80s B, 70s C, 60s D, under 60 F → B.
Straight on the facts and the family's denial [0:35]. Closes in its own voice: [1:11] “piles pressure on Ukraine to agree to an end to the war.”
Agrees: Hubbard freed before Witkoff met Putin in St. Petersburg
Splits: Adds the family's thanks to the administration and the sanctions easing
- Met. Rule: assume there is at least one other side (Russia's charge and the family's denial both reported)
- Broken. Rule: assume the viewer is as smart and as caring and as good a person as I am (no loaded words) ([1:08] piles pressure on Ukraine to agree to an end to the war.)
