U.S. District Judge Sharon Gleason in Alaska dismisses the Justice Department's suit to block certification of the Senate race if Sen. Dan Sullivan loses

U.S. District Judge Sharon Gleason dismissed the Justice Department's lawsuit seeking to block certification of Alaska's Senate election if Republican Sen. Dan Sullivan loses, CBS News, CNBC and the New York Post report. In a 20-page order, Gleason found the government had failed to establish standing and wrote that it "provides no workable plan as to how it proposes to segregate ballots cast for Daniel J. Sullivan on Election Day" while preserving voter secrecy. A DOJ spokesperson said the court dismissed the case on procedural grounds, and the department plans to appeal, CNBC reports. Mary Peltola's campaign said, "No sham investigation or baseless lawsuit from a weaponized Department of Justice is going to stop Alaskans from electing Mary on November 3rd," CNBC reports. Gleason did not resolve whether the second Sullivan had been recruited to confuse voters, CNBC reports.
